I love to bake but barely have time to feed myself during the week, let alone grease-and-flour a Bundt pan. So on Saturdays and Sundays, when I'm not rushing to work, I like to take a little time to experiment in the kitchen. Cookies, cakes, pies, meringues, muffins, scones, biscuits, anything that involves flour and butter, and I'm happy!
So if you can relate, I hope you find Weekend Baking ideas & inspiration here. Now, preheat your oven to 350 and let's cook up something amazing.
Growing up, my idea of baking was either a) Betty Crocker or b) Duncan Hines. Cakes came from packets of powdery stuff inside brightly colored boxes; frosting came from a tub with a pull-tab top.
When I was a little older, I began trying to make some of the wonderful things I bought in bakeries around my hometown of NYC -- banana-blueberry muffins, chewy chocolate-chip cookies, apple-cheddar scones. I built a cookbook library, wore out some pans, acquired a minor or burn or two, but became the person who was always volunteering to bring dessert to a party.
I'm up for the challenge of sharing my Weekend Baking adventures here, and hope you'll enjoy some of my favorite recipes.
